Vue / Nuxt hosting picker

Answer four questions about how your app runs and what you want to look after. The tool tells you which hosting model fits (static host, managed platform or VPS), the memory you should plan for, and the concrete plans that cover it, at the list prices published on the providers' own pricing pages.

How does your app run?

This is the question that decides everything else.

Monthly traffic

Visits per month, rough order of magnitude.

Do you want to administer a server?

Updates, firewall, process manager, reverse proxy, backups: your job on a VPS, the platform's job otherwise.

Where should the data live?

Matters for GDPR exposure and for users who ask where their data sits.

Recommendation

A managed platform running a Node container

Nuxt SSR needs a Node process alive on every request, so static hosting is out. Since you do not want to run a server, a platform that builds from your git repository, keeps the process up and restarts it is the right trade: less control over the runtime, no operations work.

Memory: a Nuxt production server typically runs in a few hundred MB, so 1 GB is comfortable for low traffic and 2 GB for more. The build is the catch: nuxt build commonly needs well over 1 GB, so either build in CI and copy the .output folder, or size the machine for the build.

  • Give the build 2 GB or build elsewhere. An out-of-memory nuxt build on a 512 MB box is the most common first-deploy failure.
  • The platform builds from your repository on its own machines, so the build memory problem is theirs, not yours.
  • A container plan keeps the process running, so there is no cold start, unlike serverless functions.

List prices read on the providers' pricing pages on 2026-10-18, before taxes. DigitalOcean bills in USD, Infomaniak in CHF (it also shows EUR prices). Prices change; the provider's page is the only truth at order time.

The plan links go through this site's affiliate links (DigitalOcean and Infomaniak). They do not change the price you pay and did not change which plans appear here: the picker only lists plans published on the official pricing pages.

Before the first deploy

  1. Run the production build locally and note its peak memory.
  2. Pin the Node version your app was built with (an .nvmrc or engines field).
  3. Set every environment variable on the host before the first deploy, not after the first crash.
  4. Confirm HTTPS and the final domain, then test a cold load from a phone on mobile data.
  5. For SSR: decide now who builds (CI, platform or server) so the build memory question is answered once.
